Justin Hein
My name is Justin Hein and I'm a photographer based in Boulder, Colorado. I have always loved cameras, and most of the videos of myself as a child are cut short with my high-pitched voice screaming "I want to see! I want to see!"
In 2016, one of my photos was selected through a National Geographic program to be on display at Vice President Joe Biden's house. Since then, I have won multiple awards through contests in Colorado, and I have been a finalist in various international competitions (visit this link for a list of awards, achievements, and publications). In 2019, I was one of 30 finalists out of over 5,000 submissions in a National Geographic Expeditions contest. In high school, I led the photography club for three years and I was Co-Editor-In-Chief of the Fairview Lance Yearbook as a senior.
I am also passionate about photography education. I run a photography summer camp for kids, and I am a Guide Writer for PetaPixel, one of the leading photography news and education websites. I am the product photographer at Excel Sports, a cycling shop based in Boulder.
I currently attend CU Boulder, and I am pursuing a double major in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology and Visual Art. When I'm not behind a camera, I enjoy hiking, biking, skiing, and enjoying Colorado's beautiful outdoors. I play the double bass and mandolin (honeyshed.co is my bluegrass band), and you might find me in a bee suit out tending beehives.
My favorite photographers are Keith Ladzinski (website), Albert Chong (website), Jivan West (website), and Whitney Toutenhoofd (website). Please take a look at their work and be inspired!
